Just to prove colossus has not been abandoned here are some quick shots of his progress ;)

Its really, really time consuming but in the end maybe its worth it. Im not sure at the moment. At least i have maulg to keep me from going crazy!

happy painting!

Colossus is still progressing,,,only 3 fingers left. so dont panic!! we will see finished pictures soon enough. However, there is a change on my painting table….

So, im finally back to the thing i enjoy doing most,,,organics! I thought i’d share something which is very early wip still, i’ve only managed a few hours work but i’m really enjoying the variation and freedom of colour in this piece.

Colours:
VMC Red leather
VMC Blue green
VMC Sunny skintone
VMC Dark seagreen
GW Black
GW Sw Grey

I hope you like! happy painting!

So the sentinals hand is progressing quite well now. Its been a massive ball-ache if i’m completely honest, so please forgive my lack of article on how to do it.

I can give you a recipe of the colours though

Base: GW Necron Abyss

Shadow 1: Base + GW Mechrite red + Black

Shadow 2: Black

Clean up: GW Necron Abyss

Highlight 1: GW Enchanted Blue

Highlight 2: GW Enchanted Blue + VMC Sunny Skintone

Highlight 3:  Highlight 2 + VMC Sunny Skintone

Highlight 4:  Highlight 3 + white

And this is what the consistency of my paint looks like. The red circle indicates a fresh batch of paint mixed up. Its basically coloured water. I think this consistency of paint works best if your not trying to “cover” a previous layer as in the layering technique. I place my mid-tones, higlights and shadows in one go and wet-blend the seams hence why my paint is very very thin.Image

sorry for the lack of updates! a diploma in architecture has a habit of ruining my life every now and then, so with my essay and portfolio handed in, i can finally get back to painting!!
Colossus is pretty much done, the hand ,however, has a lot left to do. I’ve promised another SbS on how to do the effect the hand will receive so stay tuned for my 2nd article ;)

happy painting!!

p.s. the green stuff is just masking tape to protect the satin black paint on the plinth ;)

I’m getting a bit impatient with it now …i really want to see what it looks like finished but I keep noticing things that need to be fixed.
I went back and attacked the pecs today as a good friend of mine (John) pointed out that they looked a little flat and to be honest,,,I think the volumes look a lot better now. I also pushed the highlights of the red so they match the yellow a bit better and picked out the belt. My painting is slowing down a little bit now too as I have to get Uni work ready for january hand-ins. Arghhhhh I have to clean up some metals too (naughty me).

Happy painting
Chris

So, as I’m sure you can guess, today has been spent playing with the red. There is a fair bit of clean up to do but im really pleased with the look of the model at the moment. Its got a strong comic style in some regards but still maintains the essence of my style ( i think).

The recipe for red is at the bottom ;)

I hope you find it useful!

Chris

…to my new and improved cave. With a new year starting and a new phase in my painting beginning i thought it was about time i created a more professional and more useful site for those that look at it.

Instead of just being a progress log of what i’m doing, this site will also become a gallery  (much better than the old gallery) and resource for those interested in  how i paint and what techniques i use. I aim to write more in-depth posts about techniques and full step by steps, as well as list the paints i use for a project and hopefully some videos!

I will start where i left off on mangoandpineapple.overblog.com

There is a full step by step on how to do metallics like this which i will leave for the second post. For now i will give you the colours used.

Shadow 3: VMC Dark Seagreen + Bestial Brown

Shadow 4: GW Chaos black
